Op 11 en 12 September organiseert Militaria Bastogne voor de 3e maal een grote militariabeurs in het veemarktgebouw in Bastogne.  Het thema van dit jaar is de  bevrijding van Bastogne. Tussen 2-12 september werd België nagegoeg compleet  bevrijd, echter de Duitsers zette een tegenaanval in. Dankzij het felle verzet van de troepen, onder leiding van generaal McAuliffe, in en rondom Bastogne is, ondanks de omsingeling en de zware slagen tijdens het Ardennen offensief, Bastogne niet meer in handen gekomen van de Duitsers. De veemarkt in Bastogne (zie foto rechts) is volledig overdekt en ingericht met een restaurant. Ook zijn er voldoende toiletten aanwezig. Militaria fair Bastogne 2010   Militaria Bastogne organises a big militaria fair on September 26th and 27th in the cattle market of Bastogne.  More information about the activities during the fair soon on this website. The Bastogne cattle market (see right picture) is completely indoor and has a restaurant and enough restrooms. This years theme will be: Libaration of Bastogne- In the period of 2-12 September almost the whole of Belgium was liberated. But the german stiked back during the Battle of the Bulge. Thanks to the strong resistance of the troops under command of General McAuliffe, Bastogne never got back in German hands. 13 december jl hebben we het monument onthuld van de 101st ABN 326thMedCo in het bijzijn van de veteranen Hank Skowronski, Carmen Gisi, Vincent Speranza en Carl Dalke. Het was een gedenkwaardig monument. Vooral voor de aanwezige veteranen, waaronder de 326th veteraan Hank Skowronski, was dit een bijzondere gedenkwaardige dag. Na 65 jaar geleden op deze plek gevangen te zijn genomen, keerde hij nu voor het eerst terug om bij de onthulling te zijn van dit monument ter nagedachtenis van de brute aanval op het veldhospitaal en ter ere van alle medics die zo onbaatzuchtig hebben gestreden om een ander te redden. Wij willen iedereen danken die dit project hebben gesteund en tot een succes hebben gemaakt.

 

Dedication monument of the 101 ABN 326th Medical Company at Barriëre Hinck te Ode.

At December 13, 2009 we dedicated the monument for the 101st ABN 326Med Co in the presence of the veterans  Hank Skowronski, Carmen Gisi, Vincent Speranza and Carl Dalke. It was a memorable moment most special for the veterans. 326th veteran Hank Skowronski,  was taken POW during the attack on the field hospital 65 years ago. He never came back till now, to be present at the unveiling of this monument to memorize this attack and to honor all the medics who were willing to give their lives while saving others. We want to thank everybody who supported this project and made it a success.

In 1944 is de start van de bouw van een van de grootste ondergrondse

vliegtuigfabrieken in het 3^e Rijk, de REIMAHG (Reichsmarshall Hermann Göring)

begonnen.

De fabriek werd gebouwd in en rond de Walpersberg vlakbij Kahla Thuringia

met als doel om het straalvliegtuig de me262 te produceren.

In bijna 1 jaar werke een ondergronds netwerk gebouwd van kilometers tunnel,

een startbaan op de top van de berg, massive bunkers, werkplaatsen,

 treinverbindingen en een kamp voor 12.000 mensen.

 

Het boek "The REIMAHG - een historisch foto-overzicht" illustreert voor

het eerst de geschiedenis van deze fabriek met meer dan 400 foto´s.

Dit is en moet vastgelegd blijven in de geschiedenis, een geschiedenis

die al bijna is vergeten of vergeten wil worden.

 

De schrijver heeft bij 18 jaar wereldwijd onderzoek gedaan naar de

geschieding van de " REIMAHG" voordat hij dit boek heeft gepubliceerd.

 

Het boek is verkrijgbaar in Engels en Duits en bevat 274 pagina´s.

In 1944, the construction of one of the biggest underground aircraft

factories in the Third Reich, the "REIMAHG" (Meaning "Reichsmarshall Hermann

Göring", started.

 

The factory emerged in and around the Walpersberg Mountain near Kahla,

Thuringia with the goal to produce the jet aircraft Me 262. In nearly one

year a subterranean network of kilometers of tunnels, a runway on top of the

mountain, massive bunkers, workshops, railroad connections and camps for

over 12,000 people were built.

 

The book "The REIMAHG - a pictorial history" illustrates for the first time

the history of this factory with over 400 pictures.

 

It is and should be a memory and an reminder of this history, that was

nearly forgotten or wanted to be forgotten.

 

The author has conducted for nearly 18 years a worldwide and intense

research about the history of the "REIMAHG", before publishing this book.

 

The book is in English and German and has 274 pages.

We Who are Alive and Remain: Nog niet eerder vertelde verhalen van de Band  of Brothers. Schrijver Markus Brotherton. De verhalen van de legandarische Easy Company die na 2 jaar harde training, gedropt in Normandië op D-Day en later in Nederland voor Operatie Market Garden. Gedurende het weekeinde van 21 – 22 maart, werden we uitgenodigd in het Verenigd Koninkrijk voor een bijzonder evenement. Vrijdagmorgen vertrokken we naar Oostende, waar we de ferry namen, om in Ramsgate te « landen ». ‘s Avonds troffen we dan Kelly Ann Sproul, beter bekend als « Kas, the Forces Sweetheart ».
Kelly vierde haar 21ste verjaardag en had een prachtig idee. Zij en haar moeder Kim, organiseerden een benefiet avond, waar muziek van de jaren ’40, gecombineerd met Kas haar prachtige stem, de Britse veteranen zou steunen. Zaterdagmorgen reden we naar Hawkinge en staken een hand toe bij de voorbereidingen van het evenement.  In de namiddag, bezochten we het ‘Battle of Britain Memorial’ en het indrukwekkende Dover Castle, met ondermeer de geheime tunnels die tijdens WO 2 werden gebouwd.

In de avond, kwam dan het grote moment and bijna 500 genodigden stroomden toe, vele van hen in uniform of burgerkledij van de jaren ’40. Zoals verwacht, was het optreden van Kas prachtig, waarbij ze een aantal liedjes van haar nieuwe CD, « When they ask us » voorstelde.
De avond verliep uitstekend en vele nieuwe contacten werden gemaakt.  We zullen hen tijdens de talrijke evenementen in 2009 zeker en vast terug ontmoeten.

Het was een prachtig weekeinde, gevuld met geschiedenis en muziek.

During the weekend of 21 – 22 March, we were invited to be present at a very special event in the United Kingdom.

Friday morning, we travelled to Ostende, took the ferry and « landed » in Ramsgate.  In the evening we met Kelly Ann Sproul, better known as « Kas, the Forces Sweetheart ». Kelly was celebrating her 21st birthday and came with a great idea.  She and her mother Kim, organized a benefit evening, where the music of the 40’s combined with Kas’ great voice, would support the British veterans. On Saturday morning we set off for Hawkinge and gave a good hand preparing the event.  In the afternoon, we visited the ‘Battle of Britain Memorial’ and the impressive Dover Castle, where the secret  tunnels, built during WW2. Saturday evening, the big moment had arrived and close to 500 guests arrived, many of them in uniform or civilian clothing of the 40’s. As expected, Kas performed outstanding and sung a number of songs from her new CD, called « When they ask us », filled with great music. The evening was excellent and a lot of new contacts were made.  Surely we will see them during the numerous events in 2009.
